WeWork hires AI scientist from Amazon/FB/Google and creates an AI desk

This summer, WeWork, the Israeli/NY $20B+ startup created in 2010, this summer brought in a Senior Research Scientist from Amazon, Facebook and Google as their VP of Engineering and Distinguised Scientist as they are pushing towards an IoT future for office space.

Working with Amazon Alexa AI, the company started with AI desks in some of its NY locations, where the desk recognized the approaching user via an app, and then automatically adjusts the desk height, the temperature, lighting etc, to the users preferences.

Using a large data analytics project from 250 locations around the world, WeWork wanted to customize office spaces based on culture and community.

WeWork discussed it further in a blog on the future of work and deep work, including examples like Philadelphia’s WeGardn, which delivers local, organic produce in a way that is cost effective and environmentally sustainable, using a predictive analytics platform to determine how much food to source.
